The Compasso d’Oro award is considered the premier design award in the world and this was the first automobile to win the award in its history.
The engine, a twin cam Tipo221 750, was specially designed to set the Record Monza. Despite being equipped with such a powerful engine the overall design was small and even cute.
The body work was individually designed and applied by the lead designer at Carrozzeria Zagato and is entirely composed of aluminum paneling. Because each was individually crafted no two cars are the same and each has its own special quirks and even registration numbers on the paneling.
The example on display is equipped with the single cam engine developed in parallel with the twin cam design at Abarth.
